Un Chien Andalusia is like passion for Jackson Pollock’s Number 5
I don’t know, I think the greatest strength an artist or a musician can achieve is when she/he can actually ‘reappropriating melody’. Coming from a sonically loud and abrasive punk background, I have come to a realization that ‘reappropriating melody’ is the most difficult process of creating art; music, if you wanna call that art also! I have been betraying music for so long by disregarding melody. Monotony, repetitiveness and mediocrity have been the central tenets of punk, and I had embraced this approach for so long. There’s nothing wrong about harshness in your art, but there’s nothing sinful about melodies in your art too. There are times when we need sandpaper, but there are times when we need lime also. And how magnificent I think it would be if the two are juxtaposed. Hence, my respect for those who can balance these two opposite forces together. Hail to The Stone Roses, Francis, Albini, Malkmus, Guy de Bord, Deal, Cobain, Mascis, Chippendale and every Dadaist and Situationist on earth! Because coolness is having courage…
